RESUME OF VIVIAN WENHUEY CHEN
RE
Bio and Education
Born in Taiwan, I came to the United States to study law and lived in Boston, Massachusetts for more than 30 years. During those years, I worked as a lawyer and a banker, but always worked on my artworks whenever I could find time. While mostly self taught aside from the art courses in schools, I attended art classes from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, under a joint program with Tufts University, and California State University at Long Beach. I was also very active in art related activities, served as trustee of the Peabody Museum of Salem (now Peabody and Essex Museum) in Salem, Massachusetts from 1985 to 1994, co-founded the New England Chinese American Fine Arts Society in Boston and was its vice president and sat on its board from 1994 to 2004.
In 2007 I moved to and settled in Long Beach, California. In addition to continuing my art career, I have been active in several art organizations and served as vice president of the Torrance Artists Guild in 2014.
The artist organizations that I have joined at various period of time are: Los Angeles Artists Association, South Bay Contemporary Critique Group, Long Beach Open Studio, Palos Verdes Painters Group, Palos Verdes Arts Center, America Fine Art, Laguna ART, Desert Art Center, Palm Springs, Long Beach Art, Torrance Artists Guild, New England Chinese American Fine Art Society,
I have had many solo exhibits in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Boston and Taiwan as well as juried group exhibits in US, China, Taiwan, Florence Biennale and Salon des Artistes Independent in Paris.
